Name: Jude Jean-Fran on May 2, 2004Country: CAState:Comments: The dues! France you have to pay back the injustice you did against Haiti. Do not try to manipulate the situation in your favour by playing Messiah like with your troups in Haiti. Since there are haitians alive until you pay back this amount of money, you will have to face the reality. I demand that you pay back the money to the State of Haiti.Flag

Name: Francois-Marie Michel on May 12, 2004Country: USState: NYComments: I have a sense that the estimated 22 millions as the compouded amount of the loot by Charles X is an understatement. Let a complete and accurate computation be made at the effective rate the 24 million was lent to Haiti by French Bank, and finally come with a more whoopping figure as expected. Also, it has to be said that principle demands that only a legitimate government be competent to talk on this issue. A hand-picked puppet is not, nor can it negotiate in the name of Haiti. Therefore, all the present involvement of France in the destabilization of Haiti can do for France is to add more debt on its part to Haiti. Shame on those who see it differently. French or Haitians.Flag

Name: Mathurin Jerome on May 16, 2004Country: USState: FLComments: Disagree with the current prime minister who being unconstitutionally occupying his position and also by imposition of a foreign power arbitrarily dismissed the question. I believe this is a question to be submitted to a referendum to let the people of Haiti decide first how much restitution should be paid, second in what form and third how it should be used and fourth over what period it should be paid, fifth how that demand should be formulated sixth what to do if France steadfastly refuses to comply.Flag

Name: Ira Kurzban on May 17, 2004Country: USState: FLComments: After many months of work on the restitution petition in which President Aristide's government collected extremely pursuasive proof of Haiti's claim against France, I was offended (but not surprised) by Gerard Latortue's (the Chalabi of Haiti) decision not to pursue the claim. Haiti has a remarkably strong claim for restitution both factually and legally. It must be pursued.Flag

France is honour-bound to redress this appallling historical wrong and ensure that true friendship blossoms between France and Haiti - a friendship built on truth and justice that will create unbreakable ties between these two countries. The Charles X Ransom is an abomination that disgraces librte, egalite et fraternite. France must return to these principles. It should begin by paying restitution to Haiti that will enable that count6ry to rebuild its shattered economy.Flag
