Ms. Parker-Pope has written other articles on multivitamins and I have questioned her sources and the science behind them. Thank you for responding to this article of hers and setting the readers straight.Flag

Six mos. later my bloods tests were much closer to normal, blood pressure was down & I lost 25 lbs without exercising! I HAD a seizure disorder, but being closer to ketogenic, I no longer am on medication & have had NO seizures in 2 & a half yrs! Low carb/no carb works. I have 50 lbs to go.Flag

Name: Keith Logan on Sep 1, 2012Affiliation:Comments: I had a heart attack about a year and a half ago. I was prescribed the normal cocktail of drugs that the "Standard of Care" requires including, naturally, a statin. I am a woodworker. I noticed I could no longer do the physical things I was accustomed to and as a result was becoming injured in the normal course of my work routine. I suspected the statin (atorvastatin) was the cause and requested my GP to cut my dose in half (80 to 40 mg). He complied. When I returned a few months later and asked him to cut it again he declined. He said he didn't know that muscle loss was a side effect of statins. He suggested I research this on the internet, but quickly said that maybe I shouldn't. Too late. The cat was now out of the bag. I diligently researched all I could relating to my heart condition and in the process discovered Mark (MDA), Gary Taubes, William Davis and now you. For this I am thankful. I quit the statins last November, had an EF of 71 per cent and am eating eggs with bacon (No toast). We will continue reading about things that matter to us in this regard, but our eating has definitely changed. We thank all of you for being willing to resist the tide of misinformation that prevails in our culture! KeithFlag

I have had no "hunger pains" or any persistent thoughts of eating. In fact, I feel completely normal, except for having to take my belt in a couple of notches. My only concern is about the long-term effects of eating saturated fats, eggs, and other foods that had always been on my "Do Not Eat" list. I'm working with my doctor to monitor cholesterol levels, which so far show an increase but also show an HDL level of 75. I'm staying with the diet for now, pending any cautions about other dietary issues.Flag

After less than 2 yrs of a Paleo/Primal lifestyle, I went from a size 14 pants to a size 4. I gained muscle, lost chronic fatigue and numerous other ailments. I can function again. Since I was active and ate low calorie, I now know the real truth.Flag

Name: Michael Scott on Sep 14, 2012Affiliation:Comments: I am a 70 year old man and have been on Atkins for thirteen years. Being a compulsive over eater, unable to control my food intake, carbohydrates just made me hungrier! After going on Atkins I was able to regain my control and have kept my 100 pounds off for thirteen years now. Carbs to a fat person are like alcohol to an alcoholic! Until over weight people understand this even if they are able to lose weight by reducing their calories, they will probably not be able to keep it off. Reducing calories means being hungry all the time. I couldn't do it and I tried, without success, for more than twenty years before Atkins. While on Atkins I was able to lose "real weight", which encouraged me from day one and I was never hungry which made it simple to keep the weight off long term. It's not nearly as hard to keep your weight off when your not always starving! All the best Mike ScottFlag

I eat between 15 to 25 grams of carbs per day. This is not a secret, no longer news. Low carb is how we were designed. It continues to frustrate me that people deny the obvious when it's staring them in the face. This is the New York Times though, so credibility is not an expectation.Flag
