RESIDENT PETITION FOR KERN RIVER VALLEY SPECIFIC PLAN TO RECOGNIZE HISTORICAL OHV USE & ACKNOWLEDGE ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF OHV USE IN KERN VALLEY
TO: County Board of Supervisors & Planning Department.
WHEREAS, among other mis-statements marginalizing OHV recreation, the draft Kern River Valley Specific Plan incorrectly states
Stewards of the Sequoia promotes responsible recreation & environmental stewardship. Our membership is diverse. Many of our members have been living in the Kern Valley for over 30 years, while other members are new to the Kern Valley. We have adopted five trails on BLM & Sequoia Forest Land. To date our members have put in almost 3000 hours of volunteer time maintaining over 380 miles of trails.
We are stakeholders with the Sequoia National Forest & have an MOU with them for stewardship. Our members care deeply about our Valley & our public lands. We represent & encourage multiple use in all forms. Our members enjoy every type of recreation in the Valley including dirt biking, 4x4, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, skiing, rock hounding, rafting, kayaking, windsurfing, hiking & more.
Our volunteers planted over 200 native Jeffrey Pines to help speed forest recovery from the 150,000 McNally Wildfire
Please join us in keeping our trails open, as well as keeping the land healthy.
