We, the undersigned, have a simple request for President Doti: Condemn what happened On February 13 in Yorba Linda at Professor Karen Lugo’s rally. Condemn publicly the violence incited from the official stage, and condemn the vicious and hateful words shouted at American families and children as they attended the ICNA event. We have already made ourselves clear that we feel our school’s reputation is in jeopardy as a result of one of our own faculty member’s organization of an event that resulted in such frightening and terrible hate speech. The issue we brought forth in our letters and in the newspaper has still not been addressed by the administration. We need to know that you stand by what you say you stand by, President Doti. All we want is a statement from you that condemns the hateful speech that took place at that rally, both on and off stage. We need proof that you stand next to the values espoused in mission statement of the university that you lead. If the administration chooses to remain silent on this issue, which affects many Chapman students, then it will be obvious that “global citizenship” and “interfaith dialogue” are nothing more than window dressing, pretty words void of meaning or action. We are waiting.
