We hereby ask Attorney General Tim Fox to draw suit against the Montana Board of Education because of their illegal act mandating that all schools in Montana adopt Common Core. The Montana State School Board's mandate for Common Core is illegal in two ways: 1) Common core will cost schools millions of dollars for tests, computers, hardware and software materials and teacher training. The State School board is required BY LAW not to pass mandates that cost money in the interim between legislatures. This mandate was passed in the legislative interim and is thereby ILLEGAL 2) The State School Board is required BY LAW to hold public meetings before mandating a curriculum. The Montana State School Board did not hold public meetings, only professional meetings, and has thereby violated the law by keeping parents and the taxpaying public in the dark about Common Core.
