Since the Red 3 bus closed down it seems that our part of Tollerton has been completely abandoned. The council has no plans to replace this service as the Keyworth Connection already runs through Tollerton. However, the nearest top for this bus (Melton Road) is nearly a mile away from where I live on Medina Drive and further if you live as far as Franklin Drive even if you use the twitchel.
Whilst the 50 is up and running again this is only at limited and sporadic times and now only goes as far as West Bridgford. Starting too late and ending too early to be of any use to those commuting to work or college.
This issue not only effects commuters but also the elderly and disabled who simply may not be able to walk the distance to either the Keyworth Connection (0.7 miles distance from Medina Drive), the 19 (0.8 miles distance - possibly 0.7 with the twitchel) or the 22 (0.7 miles distance). Young people will be reliant on their parents to drive them everywhere and can no longer enjoy independence. And we can all forget about taking the bus into town for a drink or evening meal, it will now cost you £24 via taxi to get to town and back.
It seems that to live in our area of Tollerton you now need a car or you simply cant go anywhere. The fact that we have no local shops makes it even more frustrating that we have been cut off. No public transport will mean that the area will become less desirable and that house prices will consequently drop. I for one would not have moved here if I had known that the nearest bus stop would be a mile away.
I really need local support before I can take up this issue with the county council. At the moment they are telling me there's nothing they can do. There's a few potential options that would solve the issue, one would be for another company to take over the red 3 bus, another would be to extend the 50 timetable and route so that the bus comes at more frequent times & travels to town; and another would be to slightly reroute the keyworth connection or slightly reroute the 22.
If I can get enough people to sign this petition hopefully something will be done to solve this issue.
