AnonymousUntil these laws are taken to the United States Supreme Court under 42 U.S.C. 1983, I do not see any changes taking place.
AnonymousWe MUST focus on high-risk re-offenders who prey on children and the weak. We can NOT allow our society to become so inhuman that we create lists of people who pee in public or moon someone for the sole purpose of harrassing them and ruining their lives.
AnonymousThe Adam Walsh act and the present system are using Law Enforcement resources, that are unnessary. Checking and going to low level sex offenders homes and the time in the station each offender spends talking with and filling out paperwork with a Law Enforcement offical.
Gary PittengerThe supreme court has gotton it wrong. How could anyone say that offender registration is anything but punitive? How can you refuse some one the right to live where they please as guaranteed under the constitution? Finally, registration of american citizens as dangerous people is considered to be a civil action. This is done to avoid ex post facto laws If this is so, what's to prevent the state from requiring registration updates every week? every ten minutes? Our personal liberties have eroded to the point that no one is safe from bad government and fear based legislation.

Jan FewellThe sex offenders' registry is becoming an ineffective tool. We have children on the registry for playing doctor. We have teenagers on the registry for having consensual sex, or for pulling stupid high school/college pranks like mooning or streaking. We have young men in their early 20's who got involved with a girl who lied about her age. We have young adults serving prison time and on the registry for life and their only crime was participating in "sex" talk on the internet without meeting the so called victim. The registry doesn't differentiate between these so called crimes and heinous crimes committed by true sexual predators who prey on children, or rapists who prey on anyone. The laws in this area are unconstitutional since there is no affirmative defense in cases involving consensual sex among teenagers and/or young adults. The registry standing alone and by itself can destroy a person's life. Once convicted and placed onj the registry, you are a lifer. The registry creates its own little hell for most of those who land on it. There is no restitution. You can serve your jail time or prison time, but you will NEVER escape the registry once you are on it.
Geri BurroughsI am a registered nurse and work for the Ohio Dept. of Corrections. I am also married to a RSO. There definately needs to be reform done. The Adam Walsh Act is overkill. Not every RSO is a risk and many are even innocent of their alleged crimes. Living a normal life is impossible.
Doraine FarrowThis would be the most fair system, people should realize that everyone is at risk if the laws continue in the manner they have them now.
La'Mar D. FullerPeople should be giving a chance to prove that they've changed and that it was a one time mistake. If the person has proved that they're non-violent and has paid their debt to society should be left alone to live their life as a productive citizen.
Lisa RislerRestrictions do not work and only cause more problems. Legislators are all idiots if they continue on this path of sex offender legislation.

Emili CulpI challenge lawmakers to acknowledge the mess and new group of victims that they've created with the AWA and other such poorly drafted laws. GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD--this time cut the hype and political crap, and legislate based on reason and facts--oh, and you might try REFERRING TO THE CONSTITUTION once in a while...

Jim CulpHysteria is running rampant!! Lawmakers are ignoring the facts regarding redivism. Instead of a small minority of offenders being in Tier III, it will be 80% - 90%. It will be impossible to monitor those who are most likely to re-offend.

Karen PiercyThese one size fits all laws are crazy! Lives are being ruined, families torn apart! Let's get back to that popular saying our good-hearted Christian brothers & sisters were so fond of,"WWJD?" FORGIVENESS NOT FEAR! Look within your inner circle, are your children safe? Wake up America!!!

Peggy L. OkinsZoning laws do NOT work! You are victimizing thousands of low-risk sex offenders and their families, including children. You should know the major difference between a serial rapist and someone who urinates in public or looks at a few dirty pictures. These broad-reaching laws are unconstitutional and need to be abolished!
AnonymousThe current system needs a complete overhaul. All sex offenders are treated as pedophiles & restricted by living conditions & family restrictions. Someone that has consensual sex with an underage person should not be in the same category.
MARK A. CARLISLECANT FIND A JOB TO SUPPORT MYSELF. I HAVE APPLIED TO ALL THE BIG TRUCKING COMPANIES MY OFFENSE IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD AGAINST MY TEENAGE STEPDAUGHTER I SERVED 10 YEARS DID THE 2 YEAR SEX OFFENDER TREAMENT PROGRAM AND IM NOT ON PAROLE OR SUPEVISION. I AM REFUSED ANY TRUCK DRIVING JOB EVEN HAVING MY CDL LEARNERS PERMIT WITH SEVERAL ENDORSEMENTS. THE DEPT OF LABOR EVEN SAYS WITH A SEX OFFENSE YOU WILL BE DENIED 18 WHEELERS DRIVING JOBS. I FEEL THIS IS BLATENT DISCRIMINATION AGAINST SEX OFFENDERS IN GENERAL.
Sandra McGeeMy family member served hi stime and was rehabilitated and is marked forever for a offense that was not justified and cant even get a job because of it,stop the harrassment of him and us.
AnonymousI agree everyone should have opportunity for therapy first and prosecutors/judges need to overview the whole situation. Laws and guidelines are too broad when dealing with an offender only adding a feather in their cap for each time they sentence someone.
AnonymousThis is long overdue for too long this law has been abused excessively by local and state authorities.

Christina Youngwe have a BIG problem here when there is money enough to bail out corperate criminals, but not enough money to keep our kids safe from harm. I was under the impression that we as a nation protect the innocent, and who among us are more innocent than our children? shame on the american government for allowing this to have happened!
