The East Broadway station complex is in desperate need of a renovation. This station is the primary source of public transportation for a large section of the Lower East Side and Chinatown. Join SPaCE (Seward Park and Canal East Block Association) and demand that this neglected station be immediately surveyed and prioritized for renovation to address its many on-going problems, including:

- crumbling infrastructure (ceiling, platform edges)

- poor ventilation

- garbage strewn tracks

- excessive rat population

- difficulty navigating various levels and staircases

- numerous leaks and poor drainage

- poor lighting

- damaged tiles

- inaudible public address system

- peeling paint

- general shabby and unpleasant appearance

- lack of an elevator to provide access to the disabled

The residents of the Lower East Side and Chinatown deserve an upgraded and modernized subway station just like scores of stations around New York City that have been renovated over the last 20 years. The East Broadway station has been neglected for far too long and with the Essex Crossing development bringing new residential and commercial traffic to the area in the coming years, the time is right to improve the East Broadway subway station and bring it in to the 21stCentury.

Underground railways have their negative points by nature, but the East Broadway Subway is criminally neglected and proposes serious threat to those with respiratory ailments and compromised immune systems. These conditions have prevailed too long!

Even though it is the most convenient station for me to use as a woman travelling alone it makes me feel unsafe and I avoid it. Furthermore it is unsanitary. The urine and constant flooding encourage the spread of vermin. It aslo seems that there are drug dealers that hang out at the Madison/Essex entrance.

It is inexcusable that this LES subway station has been neglected for so long. Perhpas it is becuase of the higher density of lower income residents that use it. This station would not exist in mid-town, UWS or UES in this condition.

When it rains or snows, the station is a maze of puddles and wet trash -- I have to navigate my son around the various stairways to make sure we don't hit them. The escalator is an amazing improvement... let's take further steps in the right direction!

I see tourists here every day, I am ashamed of the conditions. The other day,a piece of the ceiling fell almost hitting a young girl, it came so close her hair blew in the wind it made. The filth an decay is horrible

I am so glad this is being addressed. This subway is degrading. Also, the escalator must be repaired immediately. There is a large population of older citizens here, and there are 80! steps to clilmb. I have photos of the disgusting conditions if they can be of use..

There is now a large amount of some kind of unknown fungus eating up the Southern-most part of the wall at the Brooklyn Bound platform.
