Renfrewshire Council is potentially going remove school transport from almost 1,000 secondary school pupils - only those without a safe route to school will not be affected. Apart from hitting parents directly in the pocket, this will endanger many pupils and cause anxiety for parents who at least felt their child safe on their journeys to and from school if they were on a school bus.

I do not believe 964 secondary pupils should have their right to a school bus threatened. It will save less than half a million pounds a year and would cause great anxiety amongst parents whilst adding significantly to road congestion, carbon emissions and worry about children walking in the dark.
The Council could have found the alleged savings from cutting buses - five times over if they had just collected all the unpaid council tax this year - or saved it three times over if they just collected unpaid rates of over £1.2m this year.
Finally if Councillors had money to splash around on 22% rises between 2007-09 for all the heads of service including the education department whilst 210 teaching posts were axed. By signing this petition to keep the buses I want my views made known to the Director of Education, asking him and his colleagues to think again about the wisdom of cancelling these buses.

(By responding to this petition I realise my details will be recorded safely and securely by Wendy Alexander MSP - and I may receive future updates.)
