As a former student of Peggy Taboas, I do not feel she was an effective instructor. There were many instances when Instructor Taboas was unprepared or spent lecture time discussing personal issues not relevant to the class material.

Peggy Taboas required her students on two occasions to read over new material for 10-15 minutes of class then present that material to the class. This was material that, as students, we had never been exposed to before but were expected to clearly outline the relevant information to our peers. During one of these self-teach sessions Instructor Taboas did not inform the students that the book would be needed that day prior to class. Therefore she had to spend about 15 minutes of class time hunting down some books to bring into the class. I believe that it is a gross injustice that students should be expected to teach material to the rest of the class after only 15 minutes of preparation time. These types of activities would be better spent as knowledge reinforcement rather than for the first time being exposed to the information.

Another example in which Instructor Taboas was unprepared for class happened before one of our exams. Just a few minutes prior to taking our exam Peggy Taboas handed us a 2 page paper about ureter stents. We were expected to read this information and understand it in about 5 minutes before the exam. The reason we had to do this was because there was a question on the exam about this material that was never covered in class nor was the information mentioned in the book.

These are just a few of the examples that highlight the unprofessional conduct we witnessed while taking a class with Peggy Taboas. As students we are held to a certain level of professionalism. This professionalism should be met or exceeded by our professors. Unfortunately, the actions of Instructor Taboas fall short of the standards set by Chamberlain College of Nursing. Due to my past experience, I do not feel that Instructor Taboas will be able to provide the high quality education that I have come to expect from CCN nor enhance my knowledge of professional nursing.

As a group, we want Peggy Taboas excused from teaching research fall 2013 due to her lack of competence to be an effective instructor.
