Dear Blair Academy Administration,

It has been brought to my attention by many of our prefectees and sophomore friends are unable to attend prom this spring if asked. This new rule not only affects the sophomores but the upperclassmen as well. I am sure you are all aware that in high school, students have relationships. These relationships are essential to growth and are normal. However, what is not normal or typical in any other high school is discriminating against couples who happen to be grades apart.

After discussing the reasoning for this new rule with Mr. Facc, I understand your reasoning for not allowing sophomores to go to prom. Though the feelings of others who may not be asked this year are important, it is also a part of life. Their time will come and I think the majority would agree. Prom is a part of high school and a huge deal for a senior. Prom is two days before graduation and not allowing someone to bring their long term girlfriend is frankly, wrong. In a place with so many rules, there should be at least the freedom to bring who you want to prom. After all, Blair teaches students about commitment so why not follow through regarding committed relationships?

I hope you will think about this and reconsider this rule regarding prom.
