Manitoba Government currently has the Milkweed Plant, (Asclepias L.) listed as a Noxious Weed in our Province. This plant is a main food source for the Monarch Butterfly Larvae. If we continue to keep this plant as listed as a Noxious Weed then we will be part of the problem that is leading to a drastic reduction in Pollinators and Monarch Butterfly populations together!
The Ontario Government has already jumped the gun and removed the plant from their list in 2014, our Province should follow their example and allow this native species to grow naturally without a target on its stem.
Help join the cause and push this through to raise the awareness for our Provincial Government to do their part, and help us bring back Monarch Butterflies!

I have been reading through your messages about how many monarchs you are seeing in your own gardens lately. It is clear that this is a concern for so many of you and I am just happy to be the person who gets to pass your thoughts along to the officials in our province.

I am honestly stunned by how many of you stepped up to protect this plant. This momentum belongs entirely to the people who care about our butterflies and I am just lucky to be part of the crowd.

If the plant is an issue for livestock, then measures undertaken by the farmers will have to suffice... However, this plant is a main food source for Monarch Butterfly larvae and should NOT be systematically eliminated with funds from the public purse.
I grew milkweed many years ago in my garden. We had many pods hanging on the bottom of the wood boards on our house and got to see nature transform those pods to beautiful Monarchs. I would plant it again if I could get some seeds.
To me this is a no brainer,This plant is a sole food source for a species,Lets do the right thing take it off the list.
should be removed to encourage butterflies. monarchs have lost 90% of their population already. besides it is a beautiful plant with a lovely smell
Shocking that milkweed was EVER considered a 'noxious weed'! If we lose pollinators due to loss of plants they depend on, we're endangering our food supply
Remove thus plant from the noxious weed list. Help save our pollinators please.

The widely distributed Showy Milkweed should not be considered a noxious weed. Please remove it from the list.
