As one of the most diverse branches of the military, the United States Army has a very rich tradition. The bravery and dignity of former and current uniformed men and women has been unparalleled. No doubt, every organization has a disposition that has been apprehended from the public eye. As a current African-American service member, I find it very conflicting that such an affluent organization continues to undermine its baneful history, and make an emphasis to honor those who were conducive in its cultivation of immorality. The Confederate Army was a symbol of hate, treachery against the allegiance of its own country, and a direct representation of what the United States Army does not stand for. It is very bothersome to myself and other African-Americans, that Army bases have such a diversified group of soldiers that serve on them, but named after men who committed heinous crimes and thought of them as second class citizens. They fought for a division of the country to keep southern pride, to include the enslavement of African-American men and women. In order to be a truly unified and a corresponding contingent, I feel we must make amendments and change the names of Army bases named after Confederate generals. We currently have 8 U.S. Army bases named after these racist generals. We must make an effort to annihilate any account on a national scale related to the evil predecessors of the past.. We must attempt to create an Army that propels an environment that is predicated on cohesion and brotherhood. Honoring men who opposed those beliefs is not a great example, I am asking for those who feel as if the Confederate Generals legacy should not be honored for cohesion to sign this petition, we will take it to Congress to present a case to rename bases after those who are truly deserving.

Thank you
