Comments: This is a great idea!! Our familys rottweiler was just shot and killed by police officers here in Duluth, MN. The story is a long one, but the authorities used uneccesary force and killing an animal is unethical and inhumane. Please send me more information and things to get me involved. Thank You!

Comments: I agree that there should be laws in which animals are protected. They may not be human, but they are living creatures that live and breathe - they need love and nurturing. I also agree that every community officer should be obligated to attend animal handling training. These animals need our love and not brutality.

Comments: I COULD UNDERSTAND SHOOTING IF YOU CAN'T DEFEND YOUR SELF BUT YOU CAN DEFEND YOUR SELF AGAINST A COCKER AND MOST DOGS. I HAVE THREE AND IF THEY WERE SHOT I WOULD GO NUTS.

Comments: God help these people, it pisses me off so bad that I can hardly belive these cops can carry guns or hold their jobs seeing they can't handle their weapon with control. Put these gun happy cops behind a desk without ever being able to touch a gun again!

Comments: If the dog was wagging his tail there was no threat and should have been left a lone and for the citation the dog was in his yard. If the dog did show some aggression it's because that's what we use dogs for friendship & protection!!

Comments: I'm truly sorry to hear about "Sprite" I was online browsing for a buff male american cocker spaniel but i came upon your page so I decided to read. I think dogs should be treated as humans, I also wish that they were able to get social security but I guess not. I have a Black Cocker Spaniel and her name is "FeFe" She is a wonderful dog. Nice Page!

Comments: i really sympathize with owners who have lost a baby to violence with guns especially. I lost one of my babies to a neighbor who claims she "scared" him. I need some help understanding this. was 20 ft away and 1 1/2 yr old.

Comments: I just read the story about Sprite. I know police need to use their own discretion when they encounter a dog, but there is no reason why a cocker spaniel, or any other small dog, should be shot. Officers should have to be educated on dog behavior before they go into the community where they will encounter people's pets. If Officer Peavy had been educated she would know that Sprite wanted to play not attack. She was not in any danger and there was NO reason why she needed to shoot that animal. Then to hand the lady a $160 ticket, wasn't killing her animal enough Some people cherish their pets as they do other family members. If an officer kills someone's animal they should be have to prove that the shooting was justified and there should be some sort of consequence if they can't. Who's to say that the animals life isn't more valuable than another family members life

Comments: This is horrible! I think the officer should be held responsible. Honestly, did she fear for her life from a 38lb cocker spaniel If so, what would she do with an adult male criminal.. shoot him first and ask questions later

Comments: That was a sick thing to do... shooting a 38-pound cocker spaniel What kind of trained police officer shoots a 38-pound dog It was completely unnessessary. They could have cited the owner without killing an innocent animal.

Comments: It pains me to read the stories about police officers killing pets.Animals have no voice and that leaves it up to us to speak for them. Our pets provide us with their protection and unconditional love.

Comments: I must say this officer had no control of their weapon. I would be calling every news channel out there to spread this story. This cop should be held acountable for this action. I would cause some problems on this matter.

Comments: Police should never shoot an animal unless his life is threatened and animal is going to kill him. Too many so called cops are shooting dogs just because it barked or go into a house or yard where dog lives and shoots him to bring pain to owner. We must not stand by and do nothing and how do we protect our unharmful pets and not get jailed or beaten down ourselves? (and in most cases dog still gets shot) Help
