To change a strictly residential community like south Mt. Boucherie which was sold as such to allow a 24/7 hotel operation with the equivalent of 200 rooms AFTER people have bought their houses in good faith is morally corrupt and wrong. If 4 (four) council members are able to bring 8 to 10 years of heavy construction terror to this neighborhood with hundreds and hundreds of residents it is more than wrong and should be challenged in a court of law. Any member of council who votes FOR this OCP amendment under the presently existing circumstances will NEVER have my vote for office ever again. The plan calls for a micro brewery, a cidery, a distillery and of course there is the winery. All of which require huge amounts of water from our limited supply in a semi-arrid portion of land as is the The Okanagan Valley. To make 1 (one) bottle of beer it requires 7 to 12 liters of water just for the bottling operation. The Water Footprint Network www.waterfootprint.org has given us pause to think about our water usage. Please consider these facts: It takes about 160 liters of water to make 1 bottle of beer. It takes 750 liters of water to make 1 bottle of wine for ingredients and bottling. These facts alone should be enough reason for DWK Council to say a very firm NO to the applicant. Our community needs good government to grow and live in peace! Show us that you are able to provide it. The health and safety of an entire community has priority over a plan by an individual to build his heritage and wealth. All the Pie-in-the-Sky numbers that the proponents throw around does not make up for the fact that 85% of DWK financial obligations are funded from residential tax-income. At third reading of this application on Thursday June 23/2011 at the DWK council chambers at 6 PM please come and help all of us to say NO.
