Dear Neighbor:

Many of you have complained about the frequency of crime within the east precinct, being placed on hold when dialing 9-1-1 and unsatisfactory response times.

There is an opportunity to address this concern indirectly by relocating the east precinct from its current location which is on the eastern border of the county to a more centralized location for the area the precinct serves.

A more centralized location would yield more of a police presence in the known problem areas of the precinct area of service, which should impact the frequency of crime in said areas. Also, this location would provide a shorter distance for officers to get to their patrols, while providing greater access to I-20, I-285 and Covington Highway.

It has been said that the old State Farm facility on Panola Road (behind the This Is It restaurant) is available and the county has the funds to relocate the precinct to this location. The interim CEO, Lee May, will ultimately make the decision and emails have been forwarded to him regarding this request.

Your signature will allow him to make a decision that includes the very people that are effected by high rates of crime, unsatisfactory response times, while demonstrating community input on addressing concerns.
