The Last Legion, starring Colin Firth, Aishwarya Rai, Ben Kingsley and Thomas Sangster, has been "in the can" for almost two years.
Three U.S. release dates have been announced and postponed; the latest, August 24, has just been postponed with no new release date announced. To add insult to injury, the Weinstein Co. released a new U.S. trailer and movie poster just days before the postponement was announced in mid-July. The film has already premiered in Russia with more than respectable box office results and will be featured at the upcoming Venice Film Festival.
This latest postponement of The Last Legion is The Last Straw. Colin Firth fans, in particular, have waited eagerly to see this film. (Field trip! Field trip!) The end of summer would have been as good a time as any to release the film; in fact, we think it would have been an ideal film for moms to take their pre-adolescent kids to see before school resumed. (Not to mention how much the moms themselves would relish seeing a tanned, stubbled Colin Firth, wearing leather and armor, riding on horseback and waving his sword! Mmmm..... Take that, Harry Potter!)
We, the undersigned, demand you answer us, Weinstein Co.: Why is The Last Legion being held hostage, and when can we expect it to be released
