The Hal Roach Studios churned out motion pictures and television shows from the early 1900s through the 1950s. Its most popular output were its many short comedy series. Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang are arguably the most famous of these. The problem, however is that other, more 'obscure' series have not surfaced in recent years. Virtually the only way to get them are through bootleg and region-2 DVDs online, 16mm film, and occasional TV broadcasts. Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang have already been released on DVD, so why not release complete sets of other series? Those I am referring to are: PITTS/TODD/KELLY: A female 'counterpart' to Laurel and Hardy comprising of Zasu Pitts and Thelma Todd, and later Patsy Kelly and Lydia Roberti. (TOTAL: 41 SHORTS) THE TAXI BOYS: A short-lived series about two men who own a taxi business. (TOTAL: 10 SHORTS) CHARLEY CHASE: Dapper comedian who starred in various Hal Roach comedies beginning in the silent era (TOTAL: 104 FILMS) BOY FRIENDS: Early talkie series which served as a virtual successor to the Our Gang series, where former Our Gang stars were featured as teenagers.(TOTAL: 15 SHORTS) DIPPY-DOO-DADS: Controversial series featuring animals in human roles, complete with miniature sets. (TOTAL: 3 SHORTS) These are historic, funny comedies that many have never seen, and will never see if these aren't released on DVD. At least consider releasing them on demand on DVD-R discs as WB has done. I am sure that there are hundreds of Hal Roach fans waiting for these sort of sets to come. Considering that some of them have only a few films, release them together in a set! (ie: Dippy Doo Dads, Taxi boys, and Boy friends together!) Please, Sonar. Give us the gift of comedy and the same treatment that Laurel and Hardy have gotten. These comedies don't deserve any less. You WILL make money, Sonar. I am sure of it.
