The new proposals for HS2 in the Sheffield City Region, which were announced on 7th July, are bad for local residents, bad for communities and bad for the regional economy when compared to the previous Meadowhall case.

The recommendation put forward by HS2 Ltd will reduce job creation forecasts, provide fewer train services, deliver no services to Leeds or Birmingham, damage the environment and have a devastating impact on residents and communities in our region, in particular the destruction of over 200 homes in South Yorkshire.

Furthermore, the proposal does not guarantee either a link connecting our region to others parts of the north via HS2, or a parkway station in South Yorkshire.

We therefore call on the Secretary of State to reject the recommendation.
