Comments: No wonder so many children seem to lack the understanding that expression can be beautiful and personal perspective a right. That the human body IS a work of art. Tragic that NY is embracing shame and ignorance. We are slipping backwards.

Comments: I am very conservative, but artistic study of the human form should - no, must, be allowed. Are we that ashamed of ourselves - and if so, then all the more reason to continue arts education.

Comments: Both Mr. Panse's attention to proprieties and at the same time his commitment to the best pracitice of art education for his students are impressive. Please make it possible for him to continue to make his expertise available to those studying art.

Comments: Nude figure drawing is an integral part of the fine art experience. The human body is worthy of study, and is not a vulger object. We all possess a nude body, and we do not all use our bodies in a lewd or disrespectful manner. The poses used in these types of classes are not suggestive or inappropriate, and upperclass high school fine art students are certainly mature enough to recognize and respect the value of the nude to the art experience. To suggest that serious art students take an independent class outside of their high school, and with parental permission, is wholly appropriate and should be celebrated.

Comments: Based on the facts I read, this teacher promised to seek parental approval first and even have parental attendance in the class IF the figure drawing class was able to be arranged. I think he clearly adhered to the highest level moral and professional standards in his planning of this class (which never occurred). To try to discipline him for this is ridiculous and tells one that perhaps someone in charge there had a vendetta against this person and is using this class situation as a pretext.

Comments: As an artist and educator, I'm shocked that this is happening. Mr. Panse needs to be reinstated immediately. It was my 10th grade experience with figure drawing at the Rhode Island School of Design that prompted me to major in studio art in college and later become a NYC art teacher.

Comments: He's required to show nude pictures for life art....but get an actual model and he's fired That's absolutely rediculous. I think whoever made the decision to fire him should first hire him back, and then pose as the model so the kids can draw their REQUIRED nude life art.

Comments: I understand that we live in an age where inappropriate sexual behavior towards children is a real danger, however to demonize an indivudual based on personal fears, religious dogma or cultural bias (art world vs the pulpit) is unfair to Mr. Panse and harmful to the development of art students and all young people. Harboring bad feelings towards our bodies leads to anorexia, bulemia, and a variety of sexual problems later in life. Nudity does not equal sex to a well adjusted individuals.

Comments: I find it difficult to believe that a school board could be so reactionary at the mere mention of nude figure drawing. This is an unbelievable violation of Mr. Panse's rights, as well as a gross misrepresentation of the nature of nude figure drawing classes. Wake up and reinstate Mr. Parse!
