When will we learn that education must be free in order for mankind to aggressively reach its full potential. If parents were involved in the process, I do not have the right to object to the participation of the students.Flag

I urge the school board to reverse the suspension of Pete Panse and reinstate an obviously dedicated and inspired teacher.Flag

Name: Rebecca Burch on Sep 9, 2006State: WVCountry: USComments: It's a sad day for education when those in charge can't tell the difference between art and pornography. And it's not like he brought the models into the classroom! He merely recommended that these students take additional figure-drawing classes in an academic setting.Flag

Name: Lynne Steiner on Sep 10, 2006State: NJCountry: USComments: Anyone with any kind of knowledge about art education should be aware that life figure drawing is an essential part of the education of an artist. Informing his students of this information is totally unrelated to sexual innuendo.Flag

Name: Paulo Emiliano on Sep 11, 2006State:Country: PTComments: No true artist can be a complete artist without nude lessons. That is fundamental. I thought witch hunt had been banished from civilised societies. Or is it that the school has muslim orientations Is the board fundamentalist It would be unthinkable here in Portugal in our Art Schools, and all over Europe, I believe, to forbid nude lessons!Flag

Name: Steve Jones on Sep 11, 2006State:Country: GBComments: For goodness sake, grow up and stop being rediculous. Stop looking at the human body as being just a lump of muck. If that is what you think of it then get out of the teaching profession. Otherwise Reinstate The teacher immediately immediately. no delay. How dare you try and degrade his name with your warped views. I repeat - GROW UP!!!! I hope you understand the message!!!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Sep 11, 2006State: MDCountry: USComments: This suspension is ridiiculous and has made your school board the subject of world-wide ridicule. I don't believe that there is a magnet high school art program in the country where students would not be REQUIRED to take figure drawing at the second year level. I realize that Mr. Panse is not teaching at a magnet high school but his (former) students will have to compete with students from those high schools as well as many high schools around the world who are encouraged to draw from the nude. Drawing from the nude model has long been a part of a well-rounded education and is as important to the study of anatomy, medicine and bio-mechanics as it is for visual art. I have two teenaged children; my son has drawn from the nude since he was 15 (he is now in one of the top art colleges in the world) and my daughter, who would like to study medicine, has not yet drawn from the nude but knows that she has the option. By not allowing a teacher to suggest the possibility of drawing from the nude model, you are leaving your students in the Middle Ages or in a learning environment not unlike the worst of the Soviet Sociaist Republic. I hope that you will allow them to join with learners who have experienced The Renaissance and all that followed.Flag

Name: Michael Wiesmeier on Sep 12, 2006State: CACountry: USComments: I am an instructor of animation and figure drawing at an animation college. I have been drawing from the figure since I was fifteen years old. This practice among artists is crucial to their development and it non-sensual, non-sexual, and always of the utmost in professionalism and respect between artist and figure model.Flag

Name: Cristina Mikulasek on Sep 12, 2006State: WACountry: USComments: This is important! No one can excel in figurative art unless they work from life and study anatomy - understand how a real human body is arranged. And fortunately, if you want to express your self - your sense of life - in this way, there is now the possibility of making a living from it. But only if you do it well.Flag

Name: Mawi Gituma on Sep 12, 2006State: CACountry: USComments: Its laughable and ridiculous that childrens artistic futures are witheld due to moral and religious status of a single parent towards his daughter. From my understanding Mr. Parse simply suggested ways that his students may be better artists and practice their skills. How this can be viewed as sexual in any way clearly presents the board as a circus show on a witch huntFlag

Name: Nanci Sabino on Sep 12, 2006State: NHCountry: USComments: This is ridiculous. Mr. Panse, in advising students (with potential) to take a figure study course, is doing his job. I am an artist and HS art teacher. There is NOTHING sexual about studying the human form. If a parent has a problem with it, he should not allow it for HIS CHILD. This father is just a trouble maker looking for a cause to yell about. REINSTATE Mr. Panse.Flag

Name: Mary Malm on Sep 12, 2006State: FLCountry: USComments: Understanding the anatomy of the human figure is essential for art students. No serious art program can do without it.Flag

It was embarassing at first, but I quickly got over it and produced some nice drawings.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Sep 12, 2006State:Country: USComments: It is really sad when the world begins to shut out art for being controversial. Many famous paintings were controversial at one time, but they do not have to be if people would accept other's beliefs and think rationally about the subject. A closed mind will not learn and move forward. I wish Pete Panse the best of luck in regaining his standing that was unjustly taken away.Flag

Name: Nancy D. Carville on Sep 12, 2006State: PACountry: USComments: Parents and administrators who assume drawing nudes is about sex are wrong. Pretty soon kids see figures like anything else they draw in terms of line, shape, texture, value, color, proportion etc. If you think today's kids have not already learned about sex, put your heads back in the sand.Flag
