Repealing the death penalty is opening Pandora's box. Killers aren't offered nearly as much motivation or incentive to NOT commit murder. Instead of being threatened with death for death, they will remain behind bars for the rest of their lives, taken care of, given a roof over their heads, and never wanting for food or shelter. Getting by in life is difficult these days. What is to prevent a desperate man in dire need from killing someone? For all we know, he may be trying to live off the state, and honestly, living in jail without fear of being executed is one way to do it! There are many potential problems. Prisons could fill up faster, depending upon the crime increase rate. No one will be particularly worried about wreaking havoc in the prisons. How badly do they have to behave before they're put to death? What happens to the inmates who get brave and decide to test their luck and kill someone within the prison? What is their motivation to spare a life? Is it not also more expensive to hold inmates for their life sentences as well? I am by no means suggesting that it's cheaper to execute, but something that has been in place for so long surely can't be causing enough trouble to justify revoking the law. I feel very strongly about this. Let's set in motion actions that will reinstate the death penalty. Let the law sit there, unused, hovering over the heads of those who would kill recklessly without fear of severe consequence.
