Name: Kevin And Karen Boyd on Oct 12, 2012Comments: The arts program at Jamestown schools should have its Suzuki string program reinstated. Music students in the high school are often among the best academically, (often in math), and they stay in school and graduate. Suzuki programs get kids interested and involved in playing music at a young age. This can lead to a lifetime of success and satisfaction. I urge the Board of Education to reconsider.Flag

Name: Suellen Carlson on Oct 12, 2012Comments: JPS has had the powerhouse music program in large part because of the Suzuki program. We have had many young people who go on to major in music, become music teachers, orchestra and band members, and go on to instill the values they learned in Jamestown, in all regions of the country. I dare say that many of the first chairs in either band or orchestra began their careers playing "Twinkle". Suzuki violin and Nina Karbacka provided wonderful opportunities for my daughter. I would hope that you would re-think taking Suzuki out of the school system and provide a registered Suzuki teacher. Every child in the district deserves this musical foundation.Flag

Name: Terri L Garcia on Oct 13, 2012Comments: I have been involved with Suzuki strings for many years now, first as a parent, now as a Grandparent. My sister and two oldest sons and also my daughter took lessons with Mrs. Nina Karbacka .She made it fun and was very encouraging. They are now grown with children of their own. As I said one of my Grandchildren plays violin. The others will not have that chance,if you do not reinstate this program. Please do this for them. It is very IMPORTANT their grades improve, concentration is highly increased as well as motor skills and self confidence. again please reinstate this program sincerely, Terri GarciaFlag

Name: ROBERT M. FRITZ on Oct 16, 2012Comments: Please click on the petitions link included in my last post "http://www.ipetitions.com/widget/view/493717" and sign the petition to support reinstating the Suzuki Violin program back in to the Jamestown Public Schools curriculum. The school board decided to pull the Suzuki program, after more than 30 years of phenomenal teaching (provided by Mrs. Nina Karbacka), from the educational program this year. They are not accepting any NEW students for the program. For the future of our city's youth, especially the youth in our impoverished areas of town, they need to reinstate this program. Music enrichment is so important for developing reasoning skills. It also teaches children discipline and encourages them to persevere, to turn dreams into goals. I would also like to see posts from musicians that include what music did for them as a child. We need your help and support to get this program going again! Thank you in advance.Flag

There have been many students who started in this program and have gone on to become professional musicians. These actions will greatly impact the quality of life in the Jamestown area. Do not lose this program!Flag
