Name: Chloe Smith on Oct 8, 2012Comments: My daughter has benefited greatly from her experience as a suzuki student. She has learned to play an impressive range of songs. In addition, it has increased her confidence by allowing her to play publicly in our community. Through the Suzuki Strings Program, she has been able to meet professional musicians which has enhanced her love of music. She has been taught by wonderful teachers and also has developed positive friendships with her peers. In conclusion, music lessons help our children build confidence and communication skills, develop and fine tune listening skills and promote creativity.Flag

The arts help build creative problem solvers, which have value and are desperately needed in every career field and sector of the community.Flag

I would gladly pay a little more in my school taxes to support this program.Flag

I believe the Suzuki method was extremely effective in teaching my visually impaired daughter (now 22 years old) to play the piano and pursue her passion in music.Flag

Name: Carolyn Barnes on Oct 10, 2012Comments: As a retired Southwestern elementary music teacher I have to agree with the outstanding benefits of Suzuki instruction which carries over to all core subjects in school. What other training could substitute as well for a modest price? In addition it develops character, discipline, team work, analysis, aural, visual, and physical elements. This approach has long term benefits for all and should align well with Jamestown's educational goals.Flag

Name: Catharine Regis-Green on Oct 11, 2012Comments: As a string music teacher in Jamestown Public Schools from 1992 to 2010 & as a Suzuki string music teacher in JPS for thirteen of those years, I heartily endorse the reinstatement of the full Suzuki program in JPS with a certified Suzuki educator. Learning to play an instrument by ear at a young age using the Suzuki method has been a cornerstone of our music education in Jamestown since 1976 & has enhanced students’ achievement in academics at all levels & in our middle school & high school orchestras, bands & choruses. The strong belief that this musical advantage should be open to all JPS elementary students, regardless of income, motivated us to buy school instruments. Please support Suzuki music instruction as a great value to children in our public schools for a myriad of reasons; it has been a gem in our JPS musical heritage & another great reason to live in Jamestown. Please go to the following sites for more information about Suzuki music education: http://suzukiassociation.org/ http://suzukiassociation.org/teachers/twinkler/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_methodFlag

Name: Tammy Samuelson on Oct 11, 2012Comments: My duaghter started out in the Suzuki program when she was in kindergarten in 2001. She continues to play violin in her junior year, It has helped her in all academic areas and has also been an enjoyable experience for her. Playuing an instrument is something you can do for your entire life, vs playing a sport. Many of these students are out current high school orchestra students. This is where they get their start. If you close this program what is to happen to our orchestras? Please think before you pull the plug.Flag
