ADMINISTRATION'S ANSWER TO PETITION

This link will take you to the Superintendent answer to the petition signed by 500 voices:

Unfortunately, the signatures of 500 people have NO meaning. Apparently, the words the President of the Board of Education have NO meaning. In a casual conversation the day after the Board meeting The PRESIDENT of the Board said these words to us:
"I told Deke to take a closer look at this and see what can be done"
"We will see with Infinity.."  and also: "...after-school program", "We'll check with Mrs. Nina Karbacka", "We will talk to the Department of music, to all the music teachers" and "He is going to draft a letter.."

It is all boiling down to ONE man making decisions (the Superintendent). We will not mention the quality of the decisions. Read it and write your opinion, thoughts, ideas in the comment section.

A LOT can be DONE about it. But we need stronger organization and commitment. Are you in?

Here is the deal...The board of education wants and intends to reach ALL children in the district with the music curriculum. Yes, Suzuki strings is a phenominal program that teaches it's students to play music by ear, along with reasoning skills and focusing on goal attainment. They (the JPS Board) have rearranged the programming in order to reach MORE kids in our impoverished community. If there is a child that can not afford to pay for Suzuki lessons, apply for a scholarship grant. Be appreciative that there is still a Suzuki instructor available to meet our chilren's needs. Yes, I agree they should reinstate the program for the sake of beginners. I also, however, do not feel at a loss because we still have the program. It has just been relocated. From my perspective it is not boiling down to one man making decisions, it boils down to what is best for ALL of the children in the district. The entire board voted, did they not?

The link above is not working for me.

I am a parent of an elementary level child who plays violin but is unable to participate in the program because we are new to the district. I have spoken to several people about this but to no avail. I agree the program should be reinstated.

The first news I heard about the petition was the article in the Post Journal. I had to email the reporter, Gavin Paterniti, to get the link to this web site so I could add my signature.

I would have gone to board meetings as well had I known. I am here to pledge my support.
