I am in desperate need of your immediate help. I am a single mother residing with my two children. I am currently disabled, unemployed and I have no income. I have been receiving very limited assistance from Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health and a few charitable organizations and friends. Recently, it seemed as if things were looking up, I was happy when I was accepted into Section 8 but the good news was not to last, and this is why I am asking you for help. In 2003 I was homeless and I was blessed to receive a Section 8 certificate. I thought my troubles had ended when the Section 8 Housing Specialist approved me to move into a house that was owned by the father of my daughter, the Housing Specialist assured me that this would be no problem. About a year later I was shocked to learn that Section 8 had disqualified me from the program, they claimed I had violated the rules by living in the house of a relative. While I explained that my Housing Specialist had assured me this would be ok, they still removed me from the program causing me to be homeless with my two very young daughters. I did appeal this decision, but with only Section 8 Staff at the hearing and no representation for me, my appeal was rejected. To add insult to injury they claimed I owed them $4245.00. So now I was homeless again, but this time I was in debt too. I believe that you can help right this situation. On December 17, 2012 Section 8 representative Alicia Morlatt told me I had 30 days to pay Section Eight $4,245 or I would lose my Section 8 Certificate. This ulitimatium is very troubling, asking me to pay over $4000 in 30 days, is like asking me to give them a million dollars, I just don't have that kind of money. I'm in poverty, that's why I'm asking Section 8 for housing assistance. Please sign my petition to change the hearts and minds of the leadership of Section 8 in Cincinnati. I've been homeless before, as an adult and as a foster child, please help me not to go back.
