On 8/1/2011, Kirk Harbaugh, former employee and key-holder of the Crown Hill Radio Shack in Seattle, WA (store #01-3348) was fired for forgetting to drop the store's deposit off at the bank before going home three weeks prior. Kirk's car had been broken down for a few weeks at the time so he had been riding the bus to and from work. Kirk counted down the till and placed the deposit in his backpack in the back room. Once he had closed down the store, Kirk forgot about needing to take the deposit to the bank, and instead, rushed down the street, deposit in his pack, to catch his bus. By the time he realized he had brought the deposit with him, it was too late. His bus trip is approximately 1.5 hours one way, and catching a bus back to the bank was an unrealistic option. Kirk made the deposit the following morning before his shift. There was no tampering with the deposit bag, nor was there any discrepancy in the amount deposited. This was an honest mistake that MANY keyholders have made and, although was perhaps deserving of a write-up, was most certainly NOT deserving of termination. Kirk had been with Radio Shack for almost a year. He has a vast, comprehensive understanding of the store, products, and procedure. He has excellent customer service skills, and is frequently praised by his customer for his pleasant demeanor. His sales are consistently above par and he had aspirations of soon taking an assistant manager position and, ultimately, managing a store of his own. Everyone who has worked with Kirk enjoyed his company. He is a great sales associate with an excellent attitude, and many of us at Radio Shack believe that his termination was a mistake. We are forming this petition among Radio Shack employees who know Kirk, in hopes that corporate management will reconsider this decision and bring Kirk back on-board. If no other way, we would at least like to see him given another chance in a probationary period.
