Working on a musical history book, it has been repeatedly difficult to access historical recordings. Many have never been commercially available since their initial release decades ago, and may well never have enough commercial value to be reissued. These recordings have effectively been abandoned for commercial purposes, but they still have historic and academic value. It would be a great help to researchers and works like my own if these recordings had reasonable and rational rules of access for study. Otherwise, we consign our history and our culture to be lost without anybody gaining anything for it.
Please free up these historical recordings to the public domain where they belong.
Ridiculous that I cant even listen to some of these tracks online for research. Open this stuff up.
My grandpa had tons of old records that are just sitting in boxes crumbling away. We need to save the music before it is gone for good.
Keep history alive please.

As someone who collects antique music and teaches history, the ability to share and preserve the earliest of recordings without breaking copyright is a very important step to the preservation of this rich history.
Working on a musical history book, it has been repeatedly difficult to access historical recordings. Many have never been commercially available since their initial release decades ago, and may well never have enough commercial value to be reissued. These recordings have effectively been abandoned for commercial purposes, but they still have historic and academic value.
