Richard | Eddy | WV | US | I believe it is a shame that our goverment has allowed these companies escape a negoiated lifetime committment to assure that our seniors will be provided healthcare and retirement benefits. It is time that we all stand up and tell our goverment that enough is enough.

David | Howard | KY | US | Iam a retired/dissabled U.M.W.A. member. It is not right for any company to file bankruptcy, sell the company off and then tell it's workers, sorry you no longer have a job or benefits after giving them your blood sweat and livelyhood.
orville | slone | TN | US | these companies made money all the time they were in operation.. they used loopholes to disperse of the money that they made...leaving us umwa miners unprotected thanks for your help in advance.
Ralph | Bolt | WV | US | I was laid -off by a company which transferred theit assets to another company which now denies me the access to a health card through the UMWA retitement plan. I signed-up for this card two years ago when I took a voluntary retirement at age 55. I have 25 years active duty as an UMWA dues paying member. Why are these companies allowed to get by with this?
Donnie | Patrick | IN | US | I support the petition to change the bankruptcy laws!
Geraldine | Varner | WV | US | My husband and I are on a pension from his 35 yrs in the coal mine and I would hate to see us or anyone else lose it. Why would you work for a pension just to have it taken away. You put in the years because of the pension for your old age.

| 245 | Carlos Dean | Woody | IL | US | I worked 23 years in UMWA coal mines, got laid off in 1993 because of the Clean Air Act, took early retirement at 55, in 1996 in order to have my medical benefits for me and my wife. They said I didn't have black lung or asbestos lung, but I finally got Social Security Benefit for asthma. I have arthritis real bad and can't work. My wife is also in bad health, has arthritis real bad, going to have complete hip replacement. Together we take 20 prescriptions of medications and we are both on C-pap machines. We tried to get other insurance but were turned down, and the only insurance we have is the UMWA strike insurance and it runs out on March 31, 05. We would appreciate any help we could get or bills that you could vote on to help us with any insurance. I do have medicare, but my wife is only 54 and can't get it until she turns the appropriate age. She tried to get disability, and was denied. Thank You
