Careless drivers are passing through here at 50mph which is extremely hazardous for our families. Our houses are situated directly beside this road. All too often we hear and see tractor trailers, dump trucks and motorcycles flying past our houses. It is also nearly impossible to cross the street as passerbys don't often slow down enough to alllow us to cross safely. Countless beloved pets have been caullously killed on this street. If the drivers were operating at a MAXIMUM speed of 35 they would easily be able to avoid our animals. If you turn onto W. George st, the speed limit is 25mph due to the New Salem Elementary. The children don't LIVE at the school. They LIVE beside this busy road. Even standing at the bus stop in the mornings is unsafe for our children as trucks zoom past the children standing on the sidewalks without slowing down. Police also need to be more present and reinforce the speed limit. It is rare to see an officer monitoring the speed of drivers through town. Too many lives are at stake not to make this an issue. Does it take the death of a child before this issue to taken seriously? Is the countless deaths of our pets not important enough?
