Comments: I occasionally work as a lunchroom supervisor in Kindergarten rooms, and I see first hand that the large numbers of children in a room decreases their learning time. More time is spent transitioning and dealing with safety issues than anything, and it's a shame. The younger students are exhausted, and the older students are frustrated.

Comments: Full day kindergarten is a waste of tax payers dollars. The money should have gone into early learning and care programs.

Comments: Maybe our government officials need to read up on child development and the needs of young children for optimal learning

Comments: Please work out the kinks of your full day kindergarten program so that these tiny learners get a fair start. Last year and in daycare the ratio was/is much better with only 20 children per class with 2 educators.

Comments: I believe that if we allow for this situation to continue it will not only have an immediate negative impact on our children's education today but it will ensure that the graduates from our school system produces are not set up for success in higher education or their future careers. These students will not be able to compete at the level necessary to stand shoulder to shoulder with students who benefit from more personal attention afforded by schools with smaller class sizes, be they private or alternative or the equivalent type of schools in more progressively run school systems in other countries. This issue is fundamental to the the day-to-day well being of our children, as well as the future intellectual output of our country.

Comments: We must support our youngest learners by providing a learning environment that enables them to be heard. 32 children in one kindergarden class is too many. Let us not look short-sightedly at nickle-and-diming now only to have to pay out hundreds of thousands later to try to undo the damage with remedail classes for this entire generation.

Comments: There has been a very noticeable and concerning difference in what my son is able to learn in Kindergarten this year as opposed to last year. Last year - with 18 then 17 in the class the ratio was WELL under 1:10 - the new ratio is simply NOT working. It is a failure in our system and needs amending as soon as possible. Melana

Comments: I have twins entering kindergarten in the fall. While I am grateful to the province for providing them with a full day program, I am extremely concerned that they will not receive the individual attention required to create a positive learning environment. Please reinstate the 10:1 ratio.

Comments: When FDK was introduced it was sold as an improvement - however group sizes are larger and teacher to child ratios and space (indoor and outdoor) ratios per child are not even required to meet Day Nursery Act standards. Kids are crammed into classrooms and not getting sufficient outdoor time and activity. I'm not convinced FDK is an improvement for the children.

Comments: My daughter Olivia is in JK at OOPS and considered developmentally delayed. We have been working Toronto Preschool Speech and Language for the past 2 years to encourage her progress and provide the help she needs. December marks her last block of therapy and unfortunately, there is no other government support for kids in the educational system until at least grade one. Without the attention and guidance of a smaller class size and better student-teacher ratio during this critical time, I am afraid that she will fail to thrive. I urge you to consider the terms of the proposed petition as it will pave the way for the future and ultimately reduce the amount of support required for kids with special needs.
