My name is Vickie Wood and I am requesting signatures for a petition to have the speed limit readvised from 55 to a lower speed. I believe that no one knows actually what the speed is supose to be driving through the Kern Canyon. I would like to see the speed reduced from 55 and more patrol along the canyon. I have had experience where I was driving 45 mph and other drivers going over the double yellow line and pass me, sometimes in a corner. If the speed is reduced there might not be as much accidents as there has been. For example, one that I know of is; when my dad was killed in a motorcycle accident. There is a lot of calls to 911 about vehicles or motorcycles being invovled in an accident on 178 in the canyon. From eithere being hit or ran off the side of the road 100 feet or more down. There is yellow signs posted throught the canyon with 15, 20, 35 mph, but mostly before a real sharp turn. There should be postings of the speed limit. Drivers are not aware of the speed so they think they are driving on the freeway and don't have to worry about the othere drives.
