Name: Jake House on Dec 19, 2009Comments: I remember visiting Red Rum when I was a little boy, and feeding him polo mints. My mother knew red rum's owner and his family back when she was a teacher at a local school. Birkdale should definatly be known to the public as the home of Red Rum. So many people from so many places knew Red Rum. There must be many people who pass through Birkdale every day who are unaware that it is where Red Rum lived. I think that there should also be a sign at Birkdale train station letting passengers etc aware of this.Flag

I never met him in person but grew up with him seeing him on tv regularly! It still brings a tear to me eye now when I see old clips of him thundering down towards the finish post! I only wish I could have met him in person PaulFlag

Name: Nikki Rogers on Apr 24, 2010Comments: Red Rum was my childhood hero through the 1970's, I finally met him in the early 90's when he opened a new bookmakers in Manchester. Having my picture taken and being allowed to hold him whilst his groom took photos is still a highlight of my life, he truly had a real charisma and he deserves a fitting memorial.Flag

Name: Malcolm Wood on Sep 22, 2011Comments: You may have seen that I wrote a piece in today's special supplememnt on Ginger McCain. My concern is that Southport owes Ginger some tangible recognition and that is what I am going to try and orchestrate over the coming months with the help of other benefactors. I would like to contact Lesley about this shortly as I would not want my efforts to conflict with her campaign to have Red Rum commemorated on Birkdale beach.Flag
