Name: Paul Pilkington on Mar 2, 2009Comments: A tribute to Red Rum, around the area of Birkdale beach, is long overdue. A greater ambassador to the town of Southport in the past century I cannot think of, even now the memory of him crossing the winning post in 1977 brings a lump to my throat.Flag

Could those of you signing this petition drop me an email at john.siddle@liverpool.com with a view to speaking about your memories of Rummy. Many thanks.Flag

Name: R. Middleton on Mar 2, 2009Comments: Red Rum helped to put Southport more on the map as it where. I was at Aintree on duty with the LCC Ambulance service on first aid duty three years running. To see that horse go over the jumps was fantastic.there will never be another horse like him.Sefton Council should hang their heads in shame!Flag

Name: Frank Waters on Mar 3, 2009Comments: I am an International Horse Show announcer, originally from Formby. I once had the pleasure of introducing "Rummy" at the Pageant of the Horse in Doncaster. More than 100,000 people attended that day and you could have heard a pin drop when I told his life story. I also had the pleasure of visiting him and Ginger in Birkdale on several occasions. There has never in the history of the Grand National, nor will there be again, another horse like him. Apart from Southport, he should be acknowledged as one of the greatest athletes Britain has ever seen, he should have a national monument to his memory, let us never forget the great, Red Rum.Flag
