The Bureau of Land Management finally backed down and reversed their ridiculous rule on loaded carry at Red Rock Canyon. This unnecessary restriction is gone because we refused to sit back and accept their bureaucratic incompetence. Stay alert to ensure they actually stick to this promise.

Petition to the Nevada state director of the Bureau of Land Management to change the supplementary rules for Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to allow for loaded firearms. Currently, the rules allow for firearms to be carried, but they must be unloaded, which presents safety and self-defense risks for no appreciable public safety benefit. This is a bureaucratic rule which can be changed without federal legislation. Encourage the BLM to do the right thing and remove this antiquated law out of touch with other federal and local laws.

The Bureau of Land Management continues to ignore our basic right to self-defense while leaving us vulnerable in Red Rock Canyon. Their bureaucratic silence is a direct insult to every law-abiding citizen who visits these lands. We are not backing down until they remove this dangerous and outdated restriction.

It's rediculous to not allow loaded carry. I carry my handgun when I hike to protect myself and my group in case a mountain lion attacks us. A mountain lion is not going to wait for me to put a magazine in my gun and chamber a round.
I hike often in red rock canyon, and usually I am by myself which I feel more comfortable when I can carry a loaded gun knowing today’s crime and also that there is a mountain lion definitely in the red rock canyon area specifically first creek
You can carry an unloaded firearm? That is just a fancy and expensive club. Much of Red Rock is back country and there are coyotes, bobcats and puma. Not to mention snakes galore. Legal carry is a right and a safety precaution.
I understand that we can't carry loaded at the visitors center, but while hiking with my wife one morning, a father bighorn sheep tried advancing on us, due to protecting his family, pretty spooky. I've heard of mountain lion sightings as well. Better to be safe than sorry!
I agree with the removal of this poorly thought through policy. I hold permits in four states. I can carry my sidearm in any National Park. By denying me the right to carry my firearm in Red Rock park I have been unable to visit this great public treasure. Thank you.
There is absolutely no reason this park should be any different than VOF or other National Parks. The proximity to Vegas and the crime level alone warrant a change to this.
We have the right to protect ourselves from predators, including humans

The reason for carrying a firearm is negated by it being empty. It makes as much sense as carrying an empty canteen or putting on hiking boots without laces. It effects only the law abiding citizens because criminals ignore such laws anyway.
