We believe, for the reasons following, the policy of Joseph Alioto Recreation Center should change to allow Saint Mary's College of California's Alumni to either have an extended membership post-graduation and/or an overall adjusted membership after graduation.

1. This would promote a healthy and happy lifestyle for recent graduates as graduation proves to be a difficult process for all. The mental and physical benefits from exercise for recent graduates should be a value Saint Mary's College of California (SMC) encourages. Although other universities and colleges offer their Alumni lifetime memberships, we are simply asking for an extended access or a membership offer, as we currently are denied access to all facilities and equipment that we were promised four years ago (speaking as members of the 2016 class).

2. I paraphrase President Donahue's words, "Saint Mary's is your home and don't forget to come back." The option for Alumni to use the Recreation (Rec) Center would only encourage us to do so if these words are to be taken intentionally. Being turned away from our Alma Mater merely days after graduation does not exactly agree with the paraphrased words above and is not a gesture which we feel aligns with the values SMC illustrates.

3. As Alumni, we have the opportunity to donate and invest in the SMC community after our four years of a well-paid education. The Rec Center's adjustment to a more welcoming and inclusive policy could only encourage the same behavior from SMC Alumni as we set forth with what we've learned from Saint Mary's College.

The signatures below hereby agree with all statements above.

We look forward to a compromise and an inclusive, timely, and reasonable response to an issue frequently raised, discussed, and regarded problematic among new Alumni.
