We respectfully urge the St. Louis administration to increase total recess time to 30 minutes per day for Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade students, and to 15 minutes for middle school students. Researchers have determined that children pay more attention and exhibit better behavior after recess and with frequent breaks, All of the following educational organizations support substantial recess time for school children because of its cognitive, social, emotional, and physical benefits--the National Educational Association, the National Principal's Association, the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), and the United Nations Convention on Children's Rights, among others.

HalfDayKindergarten.org, United States3 years ago Comments: Play IS the work of children. Children need balance and unstructured time. Please protect the children, and preserve the rights of parents! The world does not need traumatized children who have been trained to perform. What the world needs is children who can think creatively, problem solve, and cope with stress. In turn, all the children need is: a childhood.
