The Syrian regime has killed, tortured, detained and abused 1000's of its own people in the last year and continues to do so with every passing day. While this oppressive regime carries out its brutal crackdown, the Syrian ambassador is allowed to continue to reside in the Syrian embassy in London. Why this situation is allowed to continue? What possible purpose does it serve? The UK government state that they want to help the Syrian people. One very significant non-violent act would be to expel the ambassador of this brutal regime from the UK. It is an affront to all Syrians. We say all Syrians because, despite attempts to create sectarian divisions, Assad's strategy is not working. Minority groups, including Christians and Druze are against this regime. Recently, Christians carried out their own demonstrations against Assad in Christian areas of Damascus. The regime is leading the people of Syria over a cliff into a dark void that will destroy Syria. We ask that the Foreign Secretary, William Hague, immediately expel the Syrian ambassador from the UK as a mark of solidarity with the Syrian people, and to show that the UK does not welcome anyone who officially represents such a murderous regime.
