Name: Tom Alix on Feb 8, 2012Comments: There is a point that real estate value's go down when the view is of nothing of value or enjoyment. When that happens the rest of the property price's go down because of it. As a cummuity we have to protect it. Also the government should be at the fore frontFlag

Comments: Building high density housing on Ridgelines is a travesty. The natural sillouettes should be in the public trust. So far, thank God, the scenic traprock ridges of Connecticut and the Pioneer Valley have been spared. They are wonderful places to hike, and also high in biodiveristy, especially botanical. Connecticut is not so crowded tht it is necessary to build on the ridgetops. Construction on steep slopes also invariably threatens regulated wetland and watercourses resources. I am a consulting ecologist, with a specialty in botany, wetlands, and application reviews, so am informed in this area. Sigrun N. Gadwa MS, PWS www.caryaecological.comFlag -

Name: Christopher Zurcher on Feb 14, 2012Comments: We depend on trees to protect our aquifers, which protect our water quality and they hold the land together. If enough trees have been removed from this ridgeline, as it looks like they have, who's going to rebuild those houses once the land under them washes away, which it will. It's just a matter of time. How these things get to this nearly irreversible point is beyond me and beyond the comprehension of probably everyone who has signed this petition. This isn't just a local issue. This is an issue that affects everyone in the state and beyond. It is possible to protect the environment and allow for homes to be built to house our residents. It just takes a little thought.Flag

And yet, both money and greed dictate that this is now a very necessary and daily part of our lives. What a shame.Flag

If as a town we can't resist letting outside companies rape our open spaces, at least we can compel them to behave responsibly towards their neighbors, and help preserve the illusion of what made Bethel unique.Flag
