Rancho Co-op Nursery School has been located at the Cheviot Hills Park for more than 40 years. The Commissioners of LA RAP (Recreation and Parks) have decided to charge a $200 a day fee for the use of our current space, the men's pool locker room. This space is otherwise unrentable and the new fee does not provide any additional benefit to our school.
Rancho Co-op is a small school (with 19 students enrolled this September). We are non-profit organization that offers a low cost nurturing environment for our children. Our low costs are due to high parent participation requirements for all enrolled families. Additionally, we are sometimes able to offer scholarships to families that need financial assistance.
Our tiny preschool is being asked to pay approximately $36,000 a schoolyear (9 months) in rent for a cinderblock and concrete men's locker room within a local park. With a fee of $200 a day imposed by RAP, our school is effectively being closed down.
