Name: Joe Westmoreland on Jan 22, 2008Comments: PLEASE DON'T turn this pier over to private interests!!! I live on W.14th St. & 9th Ave. and the River Walk is my only access to anything natural. It's calm and peaceful there now. The Meat Packing District is overrun with loud drunk people not paying attention to their surroundings. We don't need to spread that over to a park area. AND to move the Children's park is a HORRIBLE idea. Who thought of that They should be fired. Please pay attention to this petition. Thank you -- Joe WestmorelandFlag

Name: William Rogers on Jan 22, 2008Comments: This pier is important to the downtown communities. It provides essential outdoor play space for children, teens and young adults. Turning yet another city asset into a private money-making enterprise is not in the public's best interest. The growth of downtown neighborhoods in the last ten years has brought far more to the city's coffers than any deal on pier 40 could. Please do not kill the goose that lays the golden eggs by spoiling the very things we all moved down here to enjoy.Flag

Name: Anna Hillen on Jan 22, 2008Comments: We greatly miss the low key park that used to be on the Pier. Our kids need some open, low tech options. Washington Market Park is over run and the ball fields are overused. Please give us some unstructured play space. Thank you.Flag

Name: Jennifer Edson on Jan 22, 2008Comments: Parks are what keep NYC a sane place to live. Our kids and families who chose to live in NYC need the kind of space that Pier 40 provides for our kids sport activities (there are so few available already). Make NYC livable for it's residents, those of us who have chosen to make it our home and our community. PLEASE!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 22, 2008Comments: Keep Pier 40! This is an invaluable resource to the kids of NYC! WE NEED THIS SPACE! As it is we don't have the space to play in, and tearing this out will be the last straw! We will stop at nothing to save Pier 40! I play soccer AND will start baseball in the spring there. If you destroy this you destroy my and thousands of other dreams of playing sports of the kids of NY! You should be ashamed, trying to make a kids space, one of the incredibly few left in NY, into just another space for gambling! WE DON'T NEED THAT! WE NEED TO PLAY! VOTE TO KEEP PIER 40 AS IS!Flag

Name: Hong Shi Yang on Jan 22, 2008Comments: Pier 40 should definitely not be taken down. Sure it's just a huge patch of grass, but it means a lotmore than that for many students at Stuyvesant. Just this year, they finally gota home field to play football, and no longer need to travel far away just to practice. Even when it's not during the football season, a lot of the students still go there just to hang out and play ball, somewhere where they won't disrupt other people and where they won't be told toget out if they're not buying something. It's unfair to take this freedom away from them when they finally have a place to call their own, just so there can be yet another site for another entertainment ground.Flag

Name: Karen Kalina on Jan 22, 2008Comments: If the Mayor is at all serious about making New York one of the greenest cities in America as stated in his PlanNYC2030, he and his administration need look no farther than supporting the parents fighting to keep the existing green space open for their children thrive in the city. There are more than enough venues for private industry to drive economic growth in the city. Please don't take away what little green public space there is. It will be a lot harder - if not impossible - to ever get it back. The development of Pier 40 for sports fields, schools, and culture is what will continue to make New York one of the most liveable cities in the United States. Let's not loose ground now.Flag
