Raising Minimum Wage
19 states are just the start, it’s still not enough. Many Americans are still living in poverty even if they are working a full time job earning the minimum wage. Only 12.8% of the wealth in America is distributed to 80% of the population while 87.2% of wealth goes to 10% of the population. With the cost of living rising steadily due to inflation and minimum wage progressing very slowly, more and more people are moving further away from the actually living wage they need to provide for themselves and their families. The truth is everything has increased. The cost of rent, housing, health care, tuition, groceries and gas, but yet minimum wage has not trended along with them and we’re seemingly still stuck at $7.25. America is about more than just the 1%, we are all part of America and nobody should be struggling with poverty after putting in hard work at a full time job. With that being said, we need to take responsibility for it. Let us support President Obama’s movement to raise the minimum wage to $9.
