This petition is initiated by the International Rainwater Harvesting Alliance (IRHA, www.irha-h2o.org), an international NGO based in Geneva, created in November 2002 following recommendations formulated during the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg. The mandate called for the federation and unification of the disparate rainwater harvesting (RWH) movement around the world, to promote rainwater as a valuable water resource and to build on achievements in this field for the fulfilment of the Millennium Development Goals. IRHA supports the growth of RWH solutions to water supply problems.

This petition is initiated within the framework of the Budapest Water Summit, where stakeholders are discussing the Role of Water and Sanitation in the Global Sustainable Development Agenda, and exploring practical, accessible and affordable solutions to the main challenges identified. The final objective of the summit is to formulate a concrete recommendation for the UN General Assembly for setting the post-2015 development agenda.

With this petition, IRHA hopes to see the Use and Sustainable Management of Rain be included as a Water Resource in Integrated Water Management in the Budapest Water Summit declaration, and globally in National Develpment Plans. Thank you very much for your signatures and your support!
