Andrew | Dec | UK | Save it please
| 18406 | john | voisey | UK | When I heard that the BBC were bringing back Michael Grade - the Man Who Axed Doctor Who - I wondered what he would axe next.
With any luck the egg he'll get on his face over the Radio 4 theme will go nicely with the humble pie he's having to eat thanks to Russel T Davies & co over the triumphant return of the Time Lord |

Michael | Seager | VN | A big loss to our frequent Radio 4 live listening on the web... Sailing By next?
Mark | Fairman | UK | Mornings just won't be the same without the theme :-(
Nicholas | Taylor | UK | Like countless others, I have been listening to the UK Theme for the last 3 decades. It's part of of the British Institution. Why make pointless changes for change's sake? And don't even THINK of touching Sailing By!
Jeremy | Rayner | UK |
Alexander | Brett | US |
Rachel | Hayes | UK | Beautiful folk tunes which evoke their native countries. This should still be played every morning on Radio 4 - as of today, it won't be. What a huge shame. The last thing we need is another news bulletin - and why not have put the news bulletin straight after the Theme? Very sad.

Gillian | Morgan | UK | currently living in the US, I still hear it as I stream radio 4 at night and it now sends me off to sleep in the same way it used to be there to wake me up back home
Nicholas | Gill | NO | As an English man living abroad I used to love to hear the UK Theme on the radio first thing in the morning - I'm very very sad to see it's been scrapped. Is the following 3 hours of news from the Today programme not enough??? I'm sure they can assign 5 minutes of air time for everyone throughout the world to listen to this quirky piece of music that is so very British.

Margaret | Brooks | US |
Jonathan | Davies | UK | Please do not remove the UK Theme from the listings. Five minutes is not a lot of time to invest and this beautiful piece of music certainly yields a rich dividend as it soothes those of us who have to get up early in the morning.
Gordon | Stevenson | UK | I agree that the theme reflects the breadth of the UK and is also a nice way to begin the day.

Ambrose | Rachael | |
Ian J | Berry | UK |
Roger | Sandilands | UK | I switched off at 5.15 this morning. "Pacy" news? Yuk.
Nick | Phibbs | UK | Change is good, but only change for the better. I don't really care about keeping the pound, this hurts me more...whats next? Sailing by?
Tilman | Diekamp | |
Anonymous | Anonymous | UK | Save the theme!
Edwin | Hird | UK |
Nick | Maynard | UK |
Robert | Morgan | UK | For myself, and several thousand other students, 5.30am is early. Too early in fact. But, there have been numerous times when I have had to get up and do work. And, I believe that if it wasn't for the Radio 4 theme, I would have never got out of bed with as much spirit as I did. The mornings won't seem as special anymore.
George | Best | UK | Although the theme has been axed, maybe someone can review the decision and bring it back to its many fans in the UK
| 18439 | John Richard | Oates | UK | Surely it makes sense to begin the day's broadcast with something that it doesn't actually matter if you miss a bit of- literally, an introduction.
Oh, and it's a great bit of music too !!! |

Tristan | Chapman | UK |
Michael | Wells | |
Richard | Coe | UK | I am very upset to hear of the decision to axe this inspiring theme. National pride may be considered unfashionable at the BBC, but the UK theme never failed to give the needed lift to the spirit at 5:30 in the morning.
Matthew | Mills | UK | Why is it that nothing in our fair land is kept sacred anymore. Hearing this instills fealings for pasion and patriotism in my heart, and i think it would be a great shame to loose it.
