We, the undersigned, urge you to put the fight against racial inequalities in our public schools first by providing equal opportunities for all children with a desire to learn. For this reason, we encourage the use of housing subsidy programs to more effectively provide low income families access to middle class schools. We also encourage you to observe and rectify the labeling of minority children, particularly African American males, as “at risk” or in need of Special Education. Such treatment divides communities and racial inequality in the classroom is a disadvantage to all students deprived of interacting with people of different social, ethnic, and racial background.
All children deserve a high quality education. We support the rewarding of communities and metro areas that work to provide subsidized and affordable housing in suburbs. We encourage training for teachers on how to manage a multicultural classroom. Finally, we wish to see a change in the way minority children are treated in public schools. We ask you to join us in contacting school officials to support legislation that strengthens our public schools, which educates nearly 90 percent of America's school-age children. |

We are two female college students working on a "mini social movement" for our Civil Rights class. We feel strongly about equal rights for children because they often seem left out of legislation. |
