Every rabbit you suceed in selling puts a death warrant on a rabbit waiting in a shelter for a home. They are only so many homes. Rabbit Rescue of Utah, if you proceed in your intent to sell rabbits, will no long refer your company to our adopters,.

14 Renee Brennan77484Petsmart please don't sell rabbits. Rabbits are very delicate animals who do not belong in a store displayed in a window. Rabbits are companion animals just like dogs and cats, and Petsmart does not sell them in their stores. I believe this would be a really bad decision for Petsmart, as I'm certain many of your previous loyal customers will go elsewhere.
15 Barbara Yule75042As a rescuer of rabbits I know only too well how the new wears off when rabbits are purchased in a store because they are cute and babies. Children beg the parents and they give in. The rabbit suffers when the family grows tired of the new pet. ALSO: It is extremely cruel to spay or neuter a very young rabbit. No reputable veterinarian will do so before the rabbit has reached the age of four months. Also, rabbits suffer pain from the surgery and require pain medication. Often they stop eating and that in itself can be a death sentence. I can only imagine the number of poor baby rabbits that die while being spayed/neutered. Of course, the sellers of rabbits think of them as :"cheap" pets because they can breed every 30 days...so even a lot of losses does not really hurt their bottom line. Tell me PetsDumb...how will you all sleep knowing that you have gone down the same disastrous track as Petno? You will lose our support, you will be considered uncaring, you will be hated by animal lovers and rescuers. Nice advertising...do you really want to do this?

I have so appreciated the fact that you, along with Pet Supplies Plus and Petco, did not sell rabbits. This is very disturbing, because our shelter and foster homes are full. Please reconsider what you are doing to further exploit these helpless animals. Visit Petfinder and see for yourself how many rabbits are in desperate need of a home. Every one you sell causes euthanasia for a shelter bunny. I will no longer be able to support PetSmart.Thank you for reading this.

30 AnonymousAnonymousPetsmart is showing that they are all about corporate greed and not about helping animals by starting rabbit sales. We spend our dollars (about $200 per month) at our local, independently owned pet supply store that sells NO live animals- no fish, mice, hamsters, birds, or even crickets. We do rabbit and guinea pig rescue and cannot keep up with the number of rabbits and guinea pigs that come into our shelters. Every animal that is euthanized because there aren't enough adopters has a face, name, likes and dislikes, a unique character and outlook on life. This is a tragedy of monumental proportions, and every time I go to the shelters to work with the small animals I have to wonder how many of them came from Petsmart. I would not support Petsmart selling animals even if all of the shelters had waiting lists for rabbit, rodent, ferret, bird, and guinea pig adoptions, however, because Petsmart is using mills to supply their animals, not small, local breeders. For Petsmart it is all about the money, so we choose to spend ours elsewhere.

As a volunteer at a local animal shelter and with a rabbit rescue group, I can attest to the dumping and overpopulation issues of rabbits. Educated adoption is the only humane way to find homes for these exotic companion animals. I will only shop at stores which do not sell live animals. PetSmart needs to stop the exploitation of breeding animals for profit.

42 Thomas Speer93535I spent several months at my local county animal shelter taking care of 25 confiscated rabbits waiting for the courts to make a decision on where they were to be placed,and watched as "every single day"many 50 gallon oil drums full of dead bodies ,many of them rabbits were taken away to be destroyed. Petsmarts decision to add more rabbits to the slaughter (80% of rabbits bought from pet stores end up turned loose in the wild or taken to a shelter in less than 3 months) in my opinion is unconscionable" I will no longer do business with Petsmart or recommend Petsmart .
