I have been living in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia for almost a year and I am yet to get a sound sleep without the screeching brakes, rickety noises and horn blowing from the train that runs from the coal mine in Stellarton to the NS Power Plant in Trenton at the wee hours of the morning. 2:30am, 3:30am, 4:30am ... we are never sure when this obnoxious delivery will take place and WHY it has to be made at this time of night??? What is so urgent that this needs to poison our sleep time and leave us feeling tired and out of sorts all day long? WHAT IS SO URGENT that these deliveries can't wait until the day hours?
Even now, on the nights when there is no train, I wake up thinking... was that the train?
I am conditioned now to hear it and it disturbs my sleep anyway. There usually isn't one on Saturday night so I look forward to those nights when I know I'll be undisturbed.

It's not just the horn and the clanging of the red light warning bells but it is the 'movie like' 'Stephen King" screeching of the brake system that sounds like dozens of aliens crying 'invasion' which slowly proceeds through town for what seems like an eternity. Then comes to a complete stop and proceeds to back up all the way BACK through town AGAIN, screeching kill, kill, kill!? Are they trying to see how much we'll put up with?

I have contacted Jérémie Largeaud, Director of engineering services Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway Inc., Steve Newson, rail lead at Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway Inc., and the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, Hon. Geoff MacLellan. and they all send their apologies but nothing was actually done.

The Town of New Glasgow bylaw number 20 needs to take affect here.
That is if they haven't already applied for exemption? This is my next step.

It is a well documented fact that interrupted sleep can cause serious health problems and have lasting daytime repercussions.

Who else is constantly disturbed by this unnecessary delivery while we sleep and awoken to this horrific sound? If you've stayed at our house over night you'll know of what I speak and I would love for you to leave a comment.

Please sign this petition and try to make New Glasgow a pleasant place during the slumber hours.
