Name: Kathryn Heintzman on Apr 15, 2010Comments: I have been a student at Queen's university--as an undergraduate and presently as a graduate student--for the past six years. The quality of education I received at Queen's means the world to me. This included the fostering and developing of both critical thinking and critical writing skills by appropriate assignments, writing feedback, and contact with professors/TAs. The structural changes proposed in Woolf's document will reduce the quality of education at Queen's, and also limit the number of skilled students we have graduating. I hope that you take this petition seriously and send the message that pedagogy and research are still valued within the university.Flag

I understand that University is only a money-hungry institution, I just found that you did a far better job at disguising this before when you catered to student's learning more. I was hoping that Queen's did not fall into this category :(Flag

We, the students, clearly value our Queen's education and experience--which by the way has nothing to do with credit ratings and breaking even and everything to do with open interaction and dialogue with peers and profs. After all, many of us go into personal debt for the sake of our education. We'll take the high road and forgive you for not ever consulting us on major decisions in the past, and we respectfully ask that you listen to us now.Flag

I also want the future students to have the same high level of education that I have experienced over the years.Flag

Name: Linda Sun on Apr 15, 2010Comments: Being at a student of School of Music, I am strongly aware of this budget cut issue. With the Board's planning, not only are you cutting dedicated faculty members, but you are cutting the quality of our education completely. In the beginning of the school year, our music school collectively advocated for the importance of part-time faculty positions. I bet little does the Board know that the part-time faculty consist of more than half of the School of Music staff. These part-time professors give individual music lessons on our instruments (such as vocal, piano, woodwinds, brass, percussion, etc). When they are not teaching at Queen's, they are performing. teaching elsewhere, or accompanying. This is the way musicians work. If you want to rid of these part-time staff, you are sending the message that music education is not important. Thus, I strongly encourage the Board to rethink of any decisions that are made before putting them into actions. At this stage, why should someone come to Queen's University with decrease in education quality concentration. I guess they can come here for the increased focus on pretty building construction...?Flag

Name: Sarah Mi Su Lee on Apr 16, 2010Comments: Even though my sister was accepted to Queen's University, I could not wholeheartedly encourage her to come to Queen's because of the massive budget cut and reduction of education quality that is forecasted to come. I want Queen's to maintain reputation and I also want Queen's to be able to provide quality courses for new talented students my sister. Depending on the outcome of the budget planning for next year, my sister will go to Mcgill or Queens. Please make me proud of Queen's and allow my sister to continue the prestige of Queen's. Make the right decision to NOT have budget cuts for classes. Economy will recover soon but reduction of education quality does not.Flag
