Dear Fallsgrove Neighbors,

The continuous speeding and noise level of trucks coming to/from the Rockville Crushed Stone Quarry off of Piney Meetinghouse Road has been a shared concern for many of us for the past 10+ years. The stretch of residential area on Darnestown Road from Shady Grove Road to West Montgomery Ave. has changed dramatically in the last few years alone, becoming predominantly residential, including Brightview Senior Living and Kol Shalom. The quality of life among residents living along this stretch continues to suffer due to the thunderous, excessive truck noise from modified exhaust systems, known as “jake brakes,” which trucks use to stop when going too fast.

A CALL TO ACTION: As a community, we are asking for these changes to be effective as soon as possible:

1. From the quarry: To require all trucks to stay onto Shady Grove Road to get onto 270 instead of turning right onto Darnestown Road to get to West Montgomery Ave. and then onto 270.

2. To the quarry: To require all trucks to take the “Shady Grove Road” exit off of 270 or take 270 “Darnestown Road” exit and stay onto West Montgomery Ave. and turn left onto Shady Grove Road.

3. A complete halt to the usage of “jake brakes.”

We will need the final list of signatures by 5pm, Tuesday, April 30th, so that this petition can be shared with the quarry, the Montgomery County Department of the Environmental Protection Agency, among other required agencies. Please take a moment to add your signature to this petition so we can make our community voices heard!

Thank you for your consideration,
Johnny and Marjan Irannejad
