In the Quad Cities, there used to be two sirens: One for severe weather and one for tornadic weather. Some time in the past few years, the sirens have gone back to being one. I feel that waking up at night and hearing the sirens going off could make you think there is a tornado coming for you, but it could just be a high wind event or a quarter size hail event. I also heard later that it is 180 seconds for a tornadic event and 90 seconds for a severe weather event, but I counted 180 for a severe weather event once. I think that the Quad Cities should do one of two things: 1. Get a second siren, so there would be one siren for severe weather and one for tornadic events. (More Expensive) 2. Have a second sound for the current siren, so it makes 2 different sounds (example: long siren that we use now would be for severe weather, but tornadic part would have about 2 seconds of sounding followed by 2 seconds of rest and the cycle would repeat.) This option would be cheaper but would alert people of the storm and they would know whether or not they need to take cover.
